At Westward, we commune with each other over music, movement, and positivity.
You belong here.
We’re on a mission to be the best part of your day. We believe in the power of sweaty, heart-racing movement to raise people up, facilitate authentic self-expression, and create community/unity. Whether it’s day one or day one-thousand, we provide a place where you can reconnect to yourself, and find the inspiration and support to live your best life.
We believe fitness is for everyone, and that real health is so much more than how you look. Rather than fixate on superficial results, we focus on how movement makes you feel. Sure, if you ride with us long enough you’ll see your body change—that’s inevitable. But more than that, you’re going to love how you feel. Happy, inspired, energized, accomplished. Confident in your own skin and free to express your most authentic self.
We take pride in knowing more about our riders than their names. From fave bikes and brunch spots, to birthdays and big news, together we celebrate the mundane and the milestones. Creating a strong, happy community is our number one, and our M.O. is simple: connection over competition. That’s why we don’t rate your rides, track calories burned, or call you out for missing the beat. Showing up for yourself and supporting each other is the only thing that counts.
Fostering presence over perfection, we show up fully: creating joy, pushing boundaries, making room for magic, and never taking ourselves too seriously. On and off the bike, we’re passionately committed to cheering you on and celebrating your progress. We’re here to help you make the most of each ride, and through movement, we believe you’ll find your life’s flow.
We're always on the lookout for positive, enthusiastic, music-obsessed humans to expand our Westward family. No previous fitness instruction experience? No big deal. Skills can be taught, but a good attitude can't. Assholes need not apply.

An engineer by day, Shawn fuels his double life with lots of cookies, and the best pour-over coffee he can find. Known for his paired back rides and eclectic playlists, Shawn’s classes will take you on a classic hero’s journey. With highs, lows, and surprises along the way, you’ll experience a high-intensity sweat set to long, bass-heavy beats and a range of rock, electronic, and hip hop tracks that tell a story. Keeping the choreography simple, Shawn’s classes will quickly dissolve life’s stressors, leaving you feeling accomplished, liberated, and ready to take on your day. As much as Westward’s co-founder loves helping riders to crush it in class, it’s building a community connected by music and movement that keeps his fire burning long after the caffeine runs out.

We've got answers.
How is Westward Cycle different from the cycling classes offered at my local gym?
Think of us like a dance party on a bike. Unlike traditional indoor cycling classes, we choreograph every ride to the beat of the music, incorporating dance-like movements, arm weights, and abdominal exercises for a total-body workout. Compared to other spin classes, we spend more time out of the saddle, using higher RPM and lower resistance. When you ride at Westward, the lights are low, the music is loud, and you’re guaranteed to sweat your way to a leaner, toned body. Read more about our rhythm cycling method here.

How is Westward Cycle different from the cycling classes offered at my local gym?
There is no ‘introductory’ or 101 class at Westward. Every single rider + instructor started as a beginner – clumsy, uncoordinated, groping to find the beat in the dark. We welcome new riders in any and all our classes.

How is Westward Cycle different from the cycling classes offered at my local gym?
Expect your first few classes to be challenging, but rewarding. Regular riders agree that it typically takes 2-3 classes to “get it,” so it’s totally normal to feel a little lost during your first ride. Just like any new skill, you’ll get a little better and more comfortable with each ride, and you’ll learn how to maximize your experience in class. Regardless of previous experience or fitness level we encourage you to take the first few classes at your own pace. Got questions, or need help to set up and clip in? Don’t be shy—our instructors and staff are happy to assist. Read our First Ride Guide for how to prepare for class.

How is Westward Cycle different from the cycling classes offered at my local gym?
Nope! This is a common misconception. Westward Cycle is designed to give riders lean, toned bodies. Compared to other indoor cycling methods, our classes have higher RPM (quick rotations, or “revolutions per minute”) and lower overall resistance, making your body leaner and more toned while building your endurance. This full-body cardio workout just happens to be a killer abs sculptor too!

Within a 45-minute class, you can expect to burn between 350-600+ calories, depending on your body weight and strength. In other words, prepare to work it ALL, and work it hard in just 45 minutes. Whether you’re short on time or not, this is a quick, fun workout that delivers major results.

YES! We welcome EVERYONE, so come as you are. No matter your previous experience or fitness level, indoor cycling is a great low-impact exercise with limitless potential. We focus on community over competition, and mindset over metrics. All new riders are encouraged to go at their own pace - showing up for yourself is the only thing that really counts.

How is Westward Cycle different from the cycling classes offered at my local gym?
Unlike running shoes, cycling shoes have a very stiff sole, so the power produced by your leg muscles goes straight to the pedal instead of being absorbed by the cushion of a running shoe. This results in a more efficient ride, and a fuller use of your leg. In other words, a more intensified cardio experience, and more calories burned. We spend 90% of each ride out of the saddle—cycling shoes give you better control so you can ride to the beat, and make your ride more comfortable overall. While we offer complimentary SPD cleats in most shoe sizes on a first-come-first-serve basis, sizes are limited so we still encourage riders to bring running shoes to the studio.

How is Westward Cycle different from the cycling classes offered at my local gym?
Yes! Indoor cycling is an excellent, low-impact exercise for pregnant women. (Even so, you should get the green light from your midwife or GP, in case of any underlying medical conditions that may limit your activity.) Prior to class, let your instructor know that you’re pregnant, especially if your baby bump isn’t obvious. (It’s important he/she she knows why you might need to take it a bit easier, use the bathroom, or drink extra water.) Your instructor can also recommend exercise modifications and bike adjustments to keep both you and baby happy and healthy on the bike.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, reach out to the Westward Cycle team at hello@westwardcycle.co.nz.

Does Westward offer free trials or free classes?
No, we don’t offer free one-off classes, but we do have two discounted intro packages for new riders who want to try us out: First 2 RIDES for $28, or First Week Unlimited for $45.
Because we know that your first taste of our rhythm cycling method will be a little overwhelming, our intro offers are intentionally crafted to provide you with at least two classes; your second experience will be infinitely better than the first. (Imagine showing up to a dance class where everybody knows all the moves, and trying to keep up!) It takes a minimum of 2-3 rides to really find your groove on the bike, so the more you ride, the more fun you’ll have!
Do you offer a monthly membership?
How do I cancel my Unlimited Membership?
Why we don’t offer free trials or classes
We’re a small, independently owned studio, and we take pride in the amount of time, energy, and effort that goes into training our employees, prepping for each workout, and providing our riders with the best possible experience in and out of class. We believe in paying fair wages and supporting our community, and we wouldn’t be able to do that if we offered free classes or trials.
Does Westward offer free trials or free classes?
Yes! We have three, 12-week term membership options to suit your needs, with the option to pay weekly or fortnightly.
Do you offer any memberships?

Looking for flexibility? Ride with us up to three times weekly for $55/week. After a 12-week term, your weekly or fortnightly payments will auto-renew, and you can cancel all future payments at any time.

Does Westward Cycle do events & private rides?
We've got answers.
How is Westward Cycle different from the cycling classes offered at my local gym?
Think of us like a dance party on a bike. Unlike traditional indoor cycling classes, we choreograph every ride to the beat of the music, incorporating dance-like movements, arm weights, and abdominal exercises for a total-body workout. Compared to other spin classes, we spend more time out of the saddle, using higher RPM and lower resistance. When you ride at Westward, the lights are low, the music is loud, and you’re guaranteed to sweat your way to a leaner, toned body.

Expect your first few classes to be challenging, but rewarding. Regular riders agree that it typically takes 2-3 classes to “get it,” so it’s totally normal to feel a little lost during your first ride. Just like any new sport or skill, you’ll get a little better and more comfortable with each ride, and as you acclimate to our rhythm cycling method, you’ll learn how to maximize your experience in class.
Regardless of previous experience or fitness level we encourage you to take the first few classes at your own pace. Got questions, or need help to set up and clip in? Don’t be shy—our instructors and staff are happy to assist.
Check out our First Ride Guide to learn more about how to prepare for class.
