How is Westward Cycle different from the cycling classes offered at my local gym?
Westward is a full-body indoor cycling workout. We choreograph our rhythm-based ride around the beat of the music and incorporate upper body and abdominal exercises into every workout. Compared to other spin classes, we spend more time out of the saddle, using higher RPM and lower resistance. All designed to give our riders leaner, toned bodies. Is there a beginner class?
No, we don’t currently offer a Westward 101 class.
Don’t worry! We have new riders in almost every class and our instructors and staff are always there to help you set-up, clip in and start your class. We encourage all first-time Westward riders — regardless of previous experience or current fitness level — to take the first few classes at their own place. Above all, we believe showing up for yourself is the only thing that counts. That’s why we don’t rate your rides, track calories burned, or call you out for missing the beat. We’re here to support your fitness journey.
What can I expect at my first Westward Cycle class?
You should expect the first class to be challenging, but rewarding. If you felt a little lost during your first ride, you’re not alone. As you acclimate to our methodology, you will learn how to maximize your experience in class. Riders tell us it typically takes 2 – 3 classes to “get it.” Like any sport or skill – you will get a little better with each ride. You can read more about how to prepare for your first ride HERE.
Are my thighs going to bulk up?
Nope. This is a common misconception. Westward Cycle is designed to give riders lean and toned bodies. Compared to other spin classes, our classes have higher RPM (quick rotations) and lower overall resistance will make your body leaner and more toned while building your endurance. This cardio superstar of a workout is a killer abs sculptor too.
How many calories will I burn in a class?
Within a 45-minute class, you can expect to burn between 350-600+ calories, depending on your body weight and strength. In layman’s terms, you work it allllll in 45 minutes. It’ll burn, but if you’re short on time and you want a quick workout that delivers results, Westward Cycle is worth the extra effort.
I haven’t worked out in a while — can I still come?
YES! We welcome EVERYONE. No matter your previous experience or fitness level, indoor cycling is a great low-impact exercise with limitless potential. Our methodology is scalable – whether you’re a first time rider or a seasoned athlete, we work hard together to push ourselves further. We put emphasis on collective breakthroughs rather than metrics and competition.
What should I wear and bring to class?
Wear an athletic top and form-fitting pants, tights or shorts. Bring socks, running shoes and a water bottle.
Why are cycling shoes recommend for Westward Cycle classes?
Cycling shoes are strongly recommended, but not required for our classes. Unlike typical running shoes, cycling shoes have a very stiff sole so that the power produced by your leg muscles goes straight to the pedal instead of being absorbed by the cushion of the shoe – it means a more efficient ride, and a fuller use of the leg. Translation: a more intensified cardio experience, and more calories burned. Be prepared to S W E A T.
Westward offers complimentary SPD cleats in most shoe sizes at a first-come-first-serve basis. Due to limited size runs, we still encourage riders to bring running shoes to the studio.
Are Westward Cycle classes safe to do during pregnancy?
YES! You’ve probably heard that exercising during pregnancy is good for both mom-to-be and baby. After all, staying physically active while you’re pregnant can enhance blood circulation, ease backaches, improve digestion and sleep, boost your mood and energy, help you manage your weight gain, and promote muscle tone, strength, and endurance (which you’ll need for childbirth!).
Indoor cycling is an excellent, low impact exercise for pregnant women. Even so, you should get the green light from your midwife or GP before exercising during pregnancy, in case you have any underlying medical conditions that might limit your activity options.
Prior to class, let your instructor know that you’re exercising when pregnant – especially if your baby bump isn’t obvious. It’s important that he or she knows WHY you might need to take it a bit easier, slip off to the bathroom or need extra water. We are also happy to recommend exercise modifications and bike adjustments to keep both you and baby happy and healthy on the bike.

Do you offer a monthly membership?
YES! We now proudly offer a 12-week Unlimited Membership, which allows you to lock in unlimited rides for $40 per week. We recommend the Unlimited Membership for anyone who consistently rides 1 or more times per week. After the 12-week term, your weekly payments will auto-renew on a week-to-week basis, and you can cancel all future payments at anytime.

I signed up for a class, but now I can’t ride. What is your cancellation policy?
Something came up? Cancel your ride at least 8 hours before the start time to give others a chance to join the ride. If cancelled 8+ hours prior to class time, your ride credit will be refunded to your account. Reservations cancelled less than 8 hours prior to class, or no shows, will not be credited back.
To cancel, please log into your account, and un-reserve. If you require assistance, please call the studio and ask them to cancel the reservation on your behalf.
The class I wanted is full. How does the waitlist work?
If your favourite class is full, join the waitlist. Don’t worry, the waitlist works! Read about the waitlist HERE.
I am running late. Can I still attend class?
5 minutes before class starts any unclaimed bikes will be given to standby riders. If you are running a few minutes late, please call the studio to hold your spot. **Please note** once the Westward class begins and the doors are closed, riders will not be allowed to enter the class.
Do you have change and shower facilities?
We have one bathroom and one private shower (please be quick!). Our regular riders use both the bathroom + shower stall as a changeroom. Both our shower and beauty bar are fully stocked with body wash, shampoo, conditioner, a hairdryer and much more. We also offer complimentary towel service — no more wet towels in your bag!
Are there lockers?
There are 12 complimentary lockers inside the studio. Westward Cycle is not responsible for any damaged or lost personal belongings.
Where can I park?
There is lots of metered street parking on both Carlton Gore Road and George Street. For the metered spots, you only have to pay for parking Monday – Friday, 9am to 5pm. There are also two carparks at the end of Kingdon Street.
From February 21 – March 21, 2019, there will be extensive road works on Morgan Street. During this period there is no parking available on Morgan Street. Please be respectful of our neighbouring businesses and refrain from parking in the parking lot across the street from Westward Cycle.
Does Westward Cycle do events & private rides?
We like to party…on a bike! Whatever the occasion, we can help you design an event that’s fun, memorable and sweaty. To inquire about hosting a private ride or event at our studio, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
How do I cancel my Unlimited Membership?
After the 12-week term, you can cancel all future auto-payment at anytime. To do so, please email email@example.com 3 business days prior to your next payment. We manage all of our memberships and auto-payments through our MindBody platform. The best part is neither Westward Cycle or you need to notify a third-party payment processor. We are in the business of fitness, not headaches.
